This rare bracelet (circa 1950) was designed by renowned French artist, Line Vautrin. She introduced her first collection at the age of 21 and gained public acceptance after showing her designs at the Paris International Exposition of 1937. At that time, she was primarily known as a button maker, but she constantly experimented in new media. It wasn't long before she developed her trademark technique involving mirrors set on a resin background, which she termed "Talosel". This bracelet is an important example of her work, and shows her imaginative use of classical this case, the girls of Zeus. It is cast from heavyweight silvered bronze and measures just under 2" wide with a wearable length of 7 1/2". The top of the bracelet is 1/2" wide and tapers to 1/4" at the base. It has an attached safety chain which is a later addition, and the reverse is hand scribed "Made in France" and "Line Vautrin". One panel has some very minor silver finish wear on the hard edges of the bas relief, and there is loss of plate at the attachment point of the safety chain. Overall, I feel this bracelet is in excellent condition. The smaller bronze finish version of this bracelet recently sold at Christie's December 19, 2006 sale, "Parisian Fire and Light - Important Works by Line Vautrin".
