This lovely antique English necklace was handcrafted from whitby black faceted jet during the time of Queen Victoria's mourning. The necklace is 18 1/2" long including the box clasp, and tapers from 3/4" wide to 1 3/4" wide at the center element. Each of the hand faceted panels is strung on cloth cord which ends in a black enamel box closure. There is some chipping on the reverse side near the drill holes, but it is not noticeable from the front. I have seen this in all of the whitby jet pieces I've owned, and I consider this normal wear, especially considering the age of the piece. It looks great when worn and although it is over 100 years old, it's design is timeless.
